I Fixed My Solopreneur Positioning With A Mentor
Getting a mentor fixed my solopreneur positioning.
Up to that point, I seemed all over the place.
Now, not anymore––thanks to working with Stephanie Sgura.
Suddenly, inbound leads start pouring in, outbound works, and
people who I pitch myself to immediately “get it”.
I found Steph through her LinkedIn posts (she’s a leading sales
trainer in DACH) and her IG content about solopreneurship.
Here’s what working with her brought me:
#1
Don’t try to establish a new concept that you have to explain
first (mine was: “Entrepreneurial Selling”, more of a POV).
Instead, keep it simple and use terms that people already know, even if they feel less fancy, e.g.: sales coach, sales trainer etc.
#2
Have consistency in your posting so people know what you
stand for. To the point that it becomes boring.
If you’ve achieved that, what you say sticks. I, on the other
hand, was posting all kinds of random things.
#3
With that comes: (indirectly) address your ICP most of the time. (That doesn't mean you can’t share personal topics at times.)
#4
A simple offer. I tried to offer everything (like Apple in ‘98). Now I’ve reduced it to two: one more expensive, one much cheaper.
Of course, working with someone like Steph isn’t a magic fix.
Working with her built on what I was already doing, organizing
it, and then giving concrete impulses for the right way forward.
I still update my website and LinkedIn on a weekly basis
(especially from talking to my ICP, Seed-stage founders).
But when I now go to events, meet founders, or talk to people
on LinkedIn, what I do suddenly sticks (much better).
With that, it was money well spent! (She didn’t ask me to post
this by the way, but I love what she’s doing with solopreneurs.)
Who’s someone that's helped you with your positioning?
