Don’t Shit Over Your Buyer’s Setup 😬
Please don’t be so excited about your own solution, that you’re shitting all over what a buying company has done so far!
Even if that is true… it won’t land well.
People have invested time in whatever they have today. In some form, their identities are attached to what they thought might be great.
(This is especially true for Enterprise companies, where people have been working for 10, 15, 20+ years!)
Plus: they don’t know you.
So who the hell are you to be so bold?
I learned this while spending all of Q1 in Brazil 🇧🇷 Brazilians have things they dislike about their home country––like anyone has with their own country.
But there is one rule that I had to learn quickly: THEY can say it. But you, as a GRINGO (foreigner), cannot––even if it’s true.
It’s the surest way to become unpopular… and can you really blame them?
So with that, be gentle. Have people verbalize their challenges themselves, then elegantly introduce ways to improve it.
But never rub it in their face. (Goes for cold outreach and 1:1s)
Or as the proverb goes: “The road to hell is paved with good intentions!”
